What’s the Point?!

Occasionally I will see a post online, within a podcast group, saying something along these lines:

“Hi, I’m starting a podcast next month and I’d like some help from y’all about what do I need to know?”

Just writing that gives me some anxiety. What do you mean - “What do I need to know”????? I have so many questions.

  1. Why do you have a start date before you clearly defined the podcast?

  2. What is your show going to be about?

  3. What kind of budget do you have?

  4. What is your recording space?

  5. Are you doing an audio-only show, or will you be doing video versions?

  6. How do you function as an adult?

“Who is it for, and why you are doing it?!”

The list goes on. My point is - start your journey with a clear vision of what your podcast is going to be. This will help guide many of your decisions (creative and otherwise) that need to be made along the way. Who is it for, and why you are doing it?! If you don’t know why you are doing the show, or to whom the show is aimed at - then it is going to be SO MUCH HARDER to maintain any kind of passion in your audio projects for any length of time. Unfocused energy is just chaos. Instead - point it in a direction with a purpose. So don’t forget to iron out those details, because then you can always remind yourself “why you got into this” when times get challenging.
